PLANS have been revealed to convert Dunoon’s former tourist information office into a Kingdom Hall for Jehovah’s Witnesses.
The Alexandra Parade premises is the subject of an application to Argyll and Bute Council by applicants identified as WT Britain and WTBTS Jones.
In the context of Jehovah’s Witnesses, WT is said to typically stand for Watch Tower, while WTBTS stands for Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society.
The council’s planning officers are expected to rule on the application by mid-July, with the public now able to view the plans and submit feedback.
A design statement supporting the application said: “Built in the mid-1990s, covering approximately 182 square metres, the building had been used as the local tourist information office and had a main ‘shop’ area with sales desk along with three further offices, two toilets and a kitchen area.
“Entered through a corner front/main entrance having an additional two side entrances. The building is in good condition but requires internal alterations to suit its proposed use as a Kingdom Hall, a place of worship and religious education.
“Externally there are mature planted beds to the front elevation, around the accessible entrance ramp, there are 10 steps to the front door. Both sides are bordered by a high wall. The entrance road has a steep incline to the parking area to the rear.”
The statement also said that all internal block partitions would be removed, along with sanitary ware, kitchen and floating floor.
A foyer would also be formed at the entrance door, with new partitions installed for a main hall seating 71, and a second hall seating 12. There would also be four kitchen units installed along with three toilet cubicles.
To view the plans and submit feedback, visit the council’s planning portal at argyll-bute.gov.uk and use the reference number 25/00747/PP. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
