New Plans Submitted for Helicopter Hangar and Office Space at Oban Airport
UPDATED plans for a new helicopter hangar and office space at Oban Airport have been submitted to council officers.
A proposal by Argyll and Bute Council was approved in 2023 for the facility to be installed, however, a fresh application has now been made.
The authority’s planning officers are expected to rule on the application by early August, with the public now able to view the plans and submit feedback.
A design and access statement by planning agents Ryder Architecture said: “The site is located to the south of Oban Airport Terminal, east of the airport runway and approximately 50m west of the A828.
“The site is formed of undeveloped land, with an access road constructed adjacent to the eastern boundary for future development, in line with the objectives of the local development plan.
“The surrounding area is sparsely populated due to the nature of the location adjacent to the airport. The existing buildings nearby are industrial in form, clad in a variety of materials such as render and metal profile cladding.
“The overall site layout has been determined through a thorough understanding of the site opportunity and constraints, as well as the client brief. The plan, orientation and configuration of the building has been designed to maximise connectivity, usability, and security.
“The position of the hangar is guided by the adjacency to the helipad to the west, whilst the office accommodation and main entrance is adjacent to the main access road to the east. The parking for the scheme is located adjacent to the north and west office elevations which provides access for staff vehicles and service access.
“The scale of the building is two storey and the overall height is approximately 10m which is in keeping with the surrounding developments.”
